MP3

Music Piracy. The industry’s major setback. Tons of money and timeless efforts go to waste for every download or listening to an illegal MP3. Its so easy this days that all you have to do is open up a p-2-p software, torrents or links in seconds to obtain illegal music.

Providing Illegal music as well is becoming way much better over the years. Today, we could easily rip off a CD with full audio quality and audio positioning with high end bit rates using simple open-source softwares. There is no limit to how this could b spread and so on. Passing on and on in seconds instantly kills the industry as tons of money goes down the drain.

Well to prevent this type of piracy, we do have services like Urge and iTunes. For very cheap rates and playback options on only the owners devices, this is pretty amazing. But unfortunately not every in this would is able to access iTunes or have iPods. What about folks who purchase CD’s. Burn their own and so on. How do we sustain originality?

I had a suggestion which Im not too sure if it is possible or applicable. What about creating an Open ID platform for MP3’s ? As well for CD Formats. An ID that is encrypted into tags of MP3’s that could not be removed/edited. At the same time, this MP3’s should be able to be played back at any device or software as long users have an unique ID to clarify ownership.

Major softwares like iTunes, Windows Media Player, Real Media Player , Divx, VLC and so on should support the ID rectification. When a MP3 is burned onto a CD, the ID should remain intact and when its to be ripped again, a security prompt should request for the ID. And when its ripped, the ID should still retain in the media/MP3’s. Im not too sure if this is applicable but yet I believe such approach would drastically decrease piracy for new musics.
